Several well-known South Carolina Republicans – including Lindsey Graham, one of Trump’s most loyal supporters, and Governor Henry McMaster – will join Trump at the State House in Columbia as he unveils his campaign’s state leadership team.

South Carolina’s statewide victory helped Trump solidify his status as the Republican frontrunner in 2016, while the state was the third after Iowa and New Hampshire. Despite a poor showing in the first two presidential elections, Joe Biden’s win in the state’s primary in 2020 was a major turning point for the Democratic presidential candidate.

In part, because party leaders view Iowa, traditionally the first state to cast ballots, as too white and not representative of the entire electorate, Democrats are pushing to hold their first primary in South Carolina in 2024 with Biden’s support.

For the first three states, Republican candidates will run in the traditional order: Iowa, New Hampshire, and then South Carolina.

While formally launching his presidential campaign in November, Trump has remained largely off the campaign trail, making occasional appearances before guests at Mar-a-Lago.

There are two other South Carolina Republicans – former Governor Nikki Haley and incumbent Senator Tim Scott – who may run against each other in the race for the GOP presidential nomination in 2024.

If Ron DeSantis runs against him in 2024, Trump says, ‘We’ll take care of that just as I do with everything else.’

In a phone call to the conservative podcast “The Water Cooler,” former President Donald Trump urged Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to think twice before running for president.

“Now I hear he might be considering running against me. I’ll handle that the same way I handle everything,” he added.

Trump asserted he was the one who helped DeSantis win the governorship in 2018, saying, “I got him elected, pure and simple.”
