Dekalb County CEO Jones oversaw a workforce of 7,000 employees, managed a $2.6 billion budget, and presided over the Board of Commissioners.
Unsuccessfully ran for the United States Senate. After unsuccessful campaigns for the U.S. Congress (2010) and for DeKalb County Sheriff (2014), Jones was elected to the Georgia House in 2016. Jones announced in April 2020 that he would resign and endorse President Trump for reelection. One day after announcing his resignation, Jones rescinded it, announcing that he would continue to serve.
